WeChat Tests AI Search: Conversational Results from Official Accounts

WeChat is piloting an "AI Search" feature, with some users now able to see a new "AI Search" entry point in the search box.

Unlike traditional keyword matching, the new feature allows users to ask questions in natural language, with AI integrating official account articles, Channels videos, Mini Program information, and full-web data to generate answers. For example, when a user inputs "Where should I take my kids this weekend in Shanghai?", AI synthesizes parent-child guides from official accounts and explore videos from Channels to generate personalized suggestions.

WeChat AI Search is powered by Tencent's Hunyuan LLM. Insiders revealed WeChat AI Search has already connected with Tencent's advertising business, with commercialization exploration underway.

This pilot test covers approximately 5% of WeChat users, with the official version expected to fully launch in Q2 2028.
