Transparent Flexible Display FlexView Enters Mass Production: The Era of Rollable Screens Arrives

Samsung Display and BOE's jointly developed FlexView transparent flexible display technology has entered mass production, featuring a 12-inch rollable screen with 3mm bending radius and 65% transparency. First consumer devices expected Q3 2028.

Transparent Flexible Display FlexView Enters Mass Production

On June 5, 2028, Samsung Display and BOE jointly announced in Seoul that their co-developed FlexView transparent flexible display technology has officially entered mass production. The 12-inch rollable OLED screen achieves a bending radius of just 3mm with 65% transparency and 2K resolution.

Seven Years from Concept to Production

The core breakthrough lies in entirely new organic light-emitting materials and thin-film encapsulation technology. FlexView uses a proprietary Stress Distribution Layer to solve the brightness unevenness and pixel damage that occur when traditional flexible screens bend.

Samsung Display VP Park Jae-hyun said: "FlexView is not an upgrade to foldable screens — it's an entirely new product category. When screens can roll up like paper, device form factors are no longer constrained by the display itself."

First Devices

ASUS demonstrated a prototype laptop called "Scroll" that expands to 15 inches but shrinks to one-third the volume when rolled up. Xiaomi showed a FlexView smartwatch prototype where the strap itself is a ring-shaped display.

Consumer products are expected in Q3 2028. The ASUS Scroll is projected to retail around $2,000.

Industry Impact

FlexView's mass production will reshape the consumer electronics supply chain. Traditional glass substrate demand will drop sharply, replaced by polyimide films and organic light-emitting materials. Display Supply Chain Consultants analyst Ross Young said: "FlexView represents the third revolution in display technology — from CRT to LCD, LCD to OLED, and now from fixed to variable form factors."
