Portuguese energy company EDP deploys wave energy array WaveGrid off the Peniche coast, with 200 oscillating water column generators totaling 100MW capacity, powering 100,000 homes.

Portuguese electric company EDP announced on January 21 that wave energy array WaveGrid has entered operation off the coast of Peniche, Portugal. The array comprises 200 oscillating water column wave energy generators with total installed capacity of 100MW and annual generation of approximately 260GWh, powering 100,000 homes. EDP's renewables director said WaveGrid's successful operation proves wave energy has moved from experimental to commercial stage.
