American AR startup Mojo Vision has unveiled its second-generation AR contact lens PixelLink prototype, projecting 1080p resolution augmented reality images onto the retina through a MicroLED micro-display.

American AR startup Mojo Vision unveiled its second-generation AR contact lens PixelLink prototype on January 8. The device integrates a MicroLED micro-display and eye-tracking sensors, capable of projecting 1080p resolution augmented reality images onto the wearer's retina.

PixelLink uses wireless power delivery technology, with computation and power provided by a companion neck-worn device. The prototype achieves a 40-degree field of view — three times that of the first-generation product. Mojo Vision CEO Drew Perkins said: "We're still two to three years away from a truly screenless AR experience, but PixelLink proves the viability of this technology path."

PixelLink is currently still in the pre-clinical testing stage and is not expected to receive medical device certification until 2032.
