AI Personalized Education Tutor TutorMind Rolled Out Across South Korea: Every Student Gets a Custom AI Tutor

South Koreas Ministry of Education announces nationwide rollout of AI personalized education tutor TutorMind to all public schools, with each student receiving a dedicated AI tutor customizing learning paths based on learning style, knowledge gaps, and interests.

South Koreas Ministry of Education today officially announced the nationwide rollout of AI personalized education tutor TutorMind to all public elementary and secondary schools, covering approximately 5.3 million students. TutorMind was jointly developed by KAIST and Samsung SDS, with 18 months of pilot testing in Seoul involving 120,000 students.

TutorMind creates a learning profile for each student containing learning style, knowledge mastery map, learning speed curve, and interest preferences. Based on this profile, the AI tutor customizes completely different learning paths for each student, even for classmates studying the same subject in the same class.

During the Seoul pilot, students using TutorMind averaged 12% higher standardized test scores with 18% lower learning anxiety indices. However, the pilot also exposed issues: some teachers reported that TutorMind use weakened teacher-student interaction, and some students became over-reliant on their AI tutors while reducing collaborative learning with peers. The Ministry stated that the nationwide rollout will require each school to have a dedicated AI Education Coordinator to monitor appropriate use of AI tools.
