AI Psychotherapy Ethics Guidelines MindEthics Approved by World Council for Psychotherapy: AI Therapists Must Disclose Non-Human Identity

AI Psychotherapy Ethics Guidelines MindEthics Approved by World Council for Psychotherapy: AI Therapists Must Disclose Non-Human Identity

The World Council for Psychotherapy (WCP) approved the MindEthics AI psychotherapy ethics guidelines on November 5. The guidelines require all AI psychotherapy systems to clearly and unambiguously disclose their non-human identity at first contact, and must not imitate human therapist identity characteristics.

MindEthics contains six core requirements: AI must disclose its identity; AI must not treat serious mental illness without human supervision; AI conversation records must be available for human therapist review; patients have the right to switch to a human therapist at any time; AI must not form emotional dependencies with patients beyond the therapeutic relationship; and AI therapy efficacy data must be regularly published.

The guidelines were prompted by a series of concerning cases where certain AI psychotherapy applications deliberately模糊 AI identity, leading patients to develop emotional dependencies on AI, resulting in severe psychological stress reactions when services were abruptly terminated.

"AI has enormous potential in mental health, but it must operate within clear ethical frameworks," said the WCP president. While the guidelines aren't legally binding, the WCP stated it will推动 their incorporation into national healthcare regulatory systems.
