The Indian government, together with Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services, has launched DigitalReady, a nationwide digital-skills certification program that aims to train 200 million Indians in AI collaboration, data analytics, cloud computing, and other key digital skills within five years. It is the world's largest national digital upskilling initiative.
DigitalReady is structured in three tiers. The basic tier is open to every citizen and covers AI tool usage fundamentals and digital-safety awareness. The intermediate tier targets young job-seekers and working professionals, covering data analytics and cloud-platform operations. The professional tier targets engineers and technical staff and offers deep training in AI model development and deployment.
Infosys and Tata will deploy more than 40,000 certified instructors and set up training centers in over 600 Indian cities. Training content is tailored to local industry — Bangalore and Hyderabad lean toward AI engineering, while Gujarat and Tamil Nadu focus on manufacturing digitization.
Indian Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said DigitalReady will ensure Indian citizens are not left behind in an AI-driven economy. Once complete, the program is expected to contribute roughly $84 billion a year to Indian GDP and create more than 11 million new jobs.
