High-Altitude Building Maintenance Drone Swarm SkyBuilder Deployed: Autonomous Inspection and Repair of Skyscraper Facades Above 300 Meters

Skydio today released SkyBuilder, a high-altitude building maintenance drone swarm system. The system consists of swarms of 6-12 drones operating at altitudes above 300 meters to autonomously perform crack detection, stain cleaning, and small-area coating repair on skyscraper facades.

Each SkyBuilder drone is equipped with a 4K industrial camera, LiDAR, and a micro-spraying system. During swarm operations, some drones handle detection and damage localization while others carry repair materials for targeted fixes. The swarm achieves centimeter-level relative positioning through UWB ultra-wideband technology.

Adam Bry, CEO of Skydio, said: "There are over 100,000 buildings taller than 300 meters worldwide, and facade maintenance has always been high-risk, high-cost work. SkyBuilder reduces maintenance costs by 70% while eliminating the safety risks of high-altitude human workers."

Dubai's Burj Khalifa has signed on as SkyBuilder's first commercial client, planning to use the system for quarterly facade inspections starting in Q1 2031.
