MeshLift General-Purpose Warehouse Robot Deployed at JD's Asia No.1: Sorting Efficiency Up 220 Percent

JD Logistics has completed the first-phase deployment of MeshLift, a general-purpose warehouse robot, at its Asia No.1 warehouse. The system uses a modular basket design; a single robot can handle the full SKU range from 0.1 to 25 kilograms — from fragile glass bottles to small consumer electronics.

MeshLift's core innovation is its adaptive basket system. The robot automatically resizes its basket to fit the item, with no pre-programming required. When picking up a standard-packaged cosmetic, the basket compacts; when moving a large appliance, it expands to maximum volume. That design lets MeshLift handle the full SKU mix in a single warehouse without partitioning zones by product type.

JD Logistics chief scientist Andrew Shen said MeshLift's core AI is trained on large-scale reinforcement learning. Robots learn optimal paths and grasping strategies through millions of trial-and-error iterations in virtual environments, allowing the fleet to achieve near-zero-collision coordination in complex multi-robot settings.

Field data show MeshLift sorts 14,000 items per hour at the Asia No.1 warehouse — 3.2 times conventional automation. Operations staff fell from 180 to 52, focused on exception handling and maintenance. JD plans to roll MeshLift out to 20 of its regional warehouses within 2026.
