Humanoid Care Robot HumanoCare Pilots in Japanese Nursing Home: Caring for 30 Elderly Residents Daily

Toyota Motor Corporation's HumanoCare humanoid care robot completed a 3-month pilot on July 6 at a nursing home in Tokyo's Toshima Ward. Standing 1.55 meters tall with two dexterous arms and an omnidirectional mobility base, HumanoCare can perform more than 20 daily care tasks, including helping elderly residents stand up, delivering meals, pushing wheelchairs, and making beds.

During the pilot, HumanoCare autonomously cared for approximately 30 elderly residents daily, covering about 60% of the facility's daily care workload. Caregivers' workload decreased by 40%, allowing them to devote more time to emotional interaction and medical care with the elderly. Satisfaction surveys of residents and their families showed that 82% of respondents were satisfied with HumanoCare's service.

Toyota plans to begin bulk supply of HumanoCare to Japanese nursing care facilities in 2031, with an expected unit price of approximately 8 million yen (about $55,000).
