Japan's SoftBank Robotics announced on January 9 that ElderBot has been fully deployed in 200 nursing homes across Tokyo. The robot features voice conversation, facial expression recognition, and basic care operation capabilities, assisting caregivers with feeding, repositioning, vital sign monitoring, and companionship tasks.

During a three-month pilot, ElderBot reduced caregivers' non-technical workload by an average of 30%, allowing them to devote more time to specialized nursing work. The robot's companionship function also significantly improved the psychological well-being of elderly residents living alone — depression scale scores among elderly users dropped by an average of 18%.

Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare says it will promote ElderBot nationwide to address the severe shortage of caregivers in an aging society.
