Samsung Develops Self-Healing Phone Case Material: Scratches Disappear Within 24 Hours

Samsung Materials Research Institute published a paper on March 5 describing a new polymer self-healing material. The material contains microcapsule repair agents — when the surface is scratched, the capsules rupture and release healing fluid that repairs scratches up to 0.3mm deep within 24 hours at room temperature.

Samsung Electronics confirmed the material will first appear in official Galaxy S30 series phone cases. The institute's lead researcher said production costs are only 15% higher than standard plastics, making it suitable for mass production.

While LG and other manufacturers have previously released self-healing material products, their repair depth typically did not exceed 0.1mm. Samsung's advancement triples that capability.
