Sony launches AI companion pet robot PetBot, resembling a real pet in appearance, achieving deep emotional interaction with owners through emotion AI, capable of sensing owner emotions and providing comforting responses.

Sony launched AI companion pet robot PetBot on January 23. This robot blends cat and dog design features, weighing about 2 kilograms with realistic fur covering and 20 joints. PetBot's emotion AI can sense owner emotional states through voice tone, touch intensity and interaction patterns.

Sony's AI robot director said PetBot isn't meant to replace real pets but to provide emotional companionship for those who can't have pets. In Japanese pilots, nursing home residents' loneliness scores decreased by 38% after using PetBot. Priced at $599.
