MiotAir, the LPWAN roaming protocol led by the LoRa Alliance, has completed global roaming tests. Results show the protocol is now backed by 217 network operators across 68 countries. Smart water meters, soil sensors, asset trackers, and similar devices can automatically attach to local operator networks across borders without any manual configuration.

During testing, the Alliance deployed standardized roaming gateways in four hub cities — Singapore, Rotterdam, Los Angeles, and Dubai — covering key trade and logistics routes. A total of 14,000 devices completed cross-border roaming handovers during the test window, with an average handover latency of 3.7 seconds and a roaming success rate of 99.2 percent.

LoRa Alliance CEO Donna Moore said MiotAir will fundamentally reshape global logistics and supply-chain management. Traditionally, deploying IoT devices internationally required separate negotiations with each country's operator, with high roaming fees and complex configuration. MiotAir compresses that workflow to a unified settlement protocol and standardized authentication mechanism.

Southeast Asia's largest logistics company, Ninja Van, has announced it will equip its 120,000 delivery vehicles with MiotAir-enabled asset trackers in Q4 2026. European agricultural-equipment makers CLAAS and John Deere have also said they will integrate the protocol in their next-generation smart farm machinery.
