SleepSense Smart Pillow Detects Sleep Apnea Without a Single Wire — 93% Agreement With Lab Tests

DreamTech's SleepSense smart pillow earns CE certification. Using embedded piezoelectric sensors and AI, it detects sleep apnea events without any wearable devices. In a 2,000-patient trial, it matched polysomnography results with 93% agreement.

Sleep technology company DreamTech announced on April 8 that its SleepSense smart pillow has received CE certification. An estimated one billion people worldwide suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, yet more than 80% remain undiagnosed — largely because traditional polysomnography requires an overnight hospital stay connected to dozens of sensors.

SleepSense condenses the diagnostic process into an ordinary-looking pillow. Embedded piezoelectric sensor arrays detect head micro-movements, airflow vibrations from breathing, and ballistocardiographic signals — tiny body oscillations caused by each heartbeat. AI algorithms parse these signals to identify apnea and hypopnea events.

In a 2,000-patient head-to-head comparison with polysomnography, SleepSense achieved 93% agreement on the Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI). For moderate-to-severe sleep apnea (AHI above 15), detection sensitivity reached 96%.

SleepSense is priced at $299 and has established data-sharing partnerships with Philips and ResMed. DreamTech plans to integrate the technology into hotel pillows by 2031, offering guests sleep screening during their stay.
