BloodScan, a microfluidic cancer early screening chip jointly developed by Grail and Samsung Electronics, was published in NEJM on August 24, 2030, reporting results from a large-scale 10,000-person clinical validation. The chip requires only 25 microliters of blood (approximately one drop) to detect 12 common cancers at Stage I, with a combined sensitivity of 87.3% and specificity of 99.5%.

BloodScan uses a "multi-omics microfluidic" design, integrating three functional modules on a coin-sized chip: circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) detection, exosome protein analysis, and metabolite profiling. An AI algorithm fuses data from all three modules for comprehensive assessment, significantly improving early cancer detection rates.

Among the 12 cancers, BloodScan achieved 82% sensitivity for Stage I breast cancer, 91% for Stage I colorectal cancer, 85% for Stage I lung cancer, and 78% for Stage I pancreatic cancer. Previous liquid biopsy technologies typically achieved combined Stage I cancer sensitivity of no more than 60%.

Grail's Chief Science Officer said: "BloodScan's breakthrough is integrating multi-omics analysis onto a single disposable chip, with costs controlled under $50. This makes large-scale cancer early screening economically viable."

Samsung's semiconductor division stated that BloodScan chips will be mass-produced in South Korea in 2031, with an annual production target of 10 million units. Multiple health screening institutions have signed procurement intentions.
