French National Assembly passes AI Employment Transition Support Bill JobTransition, providing workers displaced by AI automation with up to 18 months of free vocational retraining and living support.

The French National Assembly passed the AI Employment Transition Support Bill JobTransition on December 22. The bill provides a comprehensive support system for workers who lose jobs due to AI automation, including up to 18 months of free vocational retraining, monthly living allowance of 1,800 euros during training, and salary differential subsidies for 12 months after re-employment.

JobTransition's funding comes from an "AI automation tax" on large tech companies — enterprises with annual revenue exceeding 1 billion euros and AI replacement rates over 10% must pay a special tax equivalent to 2% of labor costs reduced through automation. France's labor minister said JobTransition's goal is not to prevent AI from replacing jobs but to ensure displaced workers transition to new positions with dignity.
