Polar Autonomous Convoy IceConvoy Completes First Commercial Operation in Greenland: Arctic Material Transport No Longer Depends on Human Drivers

Danish logistics company DSV deploys autonomous polar transport convoy IceConvoy in Greenland, with 8 autonomous trucks completing the first commercial material transport in minus 40-degree polar conditions.

Danish logistics company DSV announced on December 3 that its autonomous polar transport convoy IceConvoy completed its first commercial operation in Greenland. Eight polar-modified autonomous trucks departed from Ilulissat in western Greenland, traversing 200 kilometers of ice cap roads to deliver supply materials to a northern research base.

IceConvoy's autonomous driving system has been specifically optimized for polar environments. The vehicles' LiDAR and millimeter-wave radar maintain reliable obstacle detection capabilities in blizzard and polar night conditions, while thermal imaging cameras can identify ice surface cracks and wildlife at minus 40 degrees.

DSV's polar logistics director said Greenland's inland roads have no road markings, no street lights, and no cellular signals — making it one of the most challenging environments for autonomous driving. IceConvoy's successful operation proves that autonomous driving technology can now operate reliably in extreme environments.
