AI Predictive Grid Maintenance System GridWatch Deploys: 30-Day Advance Equipment Fault Warning

Siemens Energy releases AI predictive grid maintenance system GridWatch, using dissolved gas analysis in transformer oil and acoustic feature recognition to provide 30-day advance warnings of transformer and switchgear faults.

Siemens Energy released AI predictive grid maintenance system GridWatch on December 23. The system uses sensors deployed on transformers and switchgear to continuously monitor dissolved gas concentrations, partial discharge acoustic signatures and temperature gradients, using AI models to provide 30-day advance fault warnings.

In E.ON's German grid pilot, GridWatch successfully predicted 12 potential transformer failures, 8 of which could have caused regional power outages if not detected early. E.ON's grid maintenance director said GridWatch reduced unplanned outages by 45% and equipment maintenance costs by 30%.
