Perovskite Solar Glass Window PerovskGlass Completes First Commercial Building Installation in Seoul: Every Window Is a Power Plant

Korea's Qcells completed the full-building installation of PerovskGlass perovskite solar glass windows on July 9 at a 20-story commercial office building in Seoul's Gangnam District. All 3,200 windows in the building use semi-transparent perovskite solar glass in place of traditional glass, achieving 8.5% photovoltaic conversion efficiency while maintaining 40% visible light transmittance.

The building's total window power generation capacity is 180 kilowatts, with annual electricity output of approximately 190,000 kilowatt-hours — enough to meet about 35% of the building's electricity needs. PerovskGlass has the same thickness as standard insulated glass (24 millimeters) and requires no additional support structures for installation.

Qcells stated that PerovskGlass costs approximately $280 per square meter — about $120 more than standard insulated glass — but given the electricity generation benefits, the investment payback period is approximately six years. Five building projects have already signed installation contracts for PerovskGlass.
