AI Grid Energy Storage Dispatch System GridOptimize Deployed: Storage Utilization Up 40%

NextEra Energy deploys AI grid storage dispatch system GridOptimize in Florida, improving storage utilization from 58% to 98% through predictive scheduling, reducing annual curtailment by 40%.

America's largest renewable energy company NextEra Energy today announced deployment of AI energy storage dispatch system GridOptimize across its Florida grid. The biggest challenge for grid storage isn't the batteries themselves but the dispatch decisions — when to charge, when to discharge, and how much — with poor scheduling causing losses during low-price valleys or inability to absorb surplus renewable energy.

GridOptimize uses a multi-objective optimization model combining weather, electricity price, load, and renewable generation forecasts at 15-minute granularity for optimal charge-discharge scheduling. The system dynamically adjusts charge-discharge depth based on battery state of health (SOH) to extend battery lifespan.

During 6 months of trial operation, GridOptimize improved storage utilization from 58% to 98%, reduced annual curtailment by 40%, and generated approximately $23 million in additional revenue for NextEra.
