AI Grid Demand Response System GridBalance Deployed in California: Automatic 20% Peak Shaving During Summer

The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) announced on April 1 that AI-driven demand response system GridBalance has completed its first summer operating season on the California grid. The system uses AI to predict electricity demand curves 4 hours ahead and automatically adjusts registered users' smart appliances (air conditioners, water heaters, EV chargers) during peak periods.

During the 2028 summer season, GridBalance reduced California's peak demand by 20%, equivalent to eliminating the need for 4 natural gas peaker plants. Participating users received an average monthly bill reduction of $35.

CAISO President Elliot Mainzer stated: "GridBalance proves that grid flexibility doesn't have to come from the supply side—intelligent demand-side adjustment can play an equally significant role."
