Grid Digital Twin AI GridTwin Deployed in Germany: Renewable Energy Integration Efficiency Up 35%

German grid operator TenneT and AI company GridMind deploy GridTwin digital twin system, optimizing renewable energy integration through real-time grid simulation, reducing curtailment rates from 8.2% to 5.3%.

Germany's Federal Network Agency announced on December 24 that the grid digital twin system GridTwin has been fully deployed across the country. Developed jointly by grid operator TenneT and Berlin-based AI company GridMind, it covers approximately 35,000 kilometers of high-voltage transmission lines and over 400 substations.

GridTwin's core is a real-time grid digital twin updated every 15 seconds. The system ingests data from 120,000 sensors, including line temperature, wind speed, real-time solar PV output, and load forecasts, computing optimal dispatch solutions via reinforcement learning within milliseconds.

Test results show GridTwin improved renewable energy integration efficiency by 35%, reducing curtailment rates from 8.2% to 5.3%, equivalent to approximately 4.7 terawatt-hours of additional clean energy consumption annually. GridMind CEO Thomas Richter said GridTwin's greatest value is that it can find alternatives 1,000 times faster than human dispatchers when wind power fluctuates suddenly.

Germany's Federal Network Agency has required GridMind to open model decision logs for auditing AI judgment logic under extreme operating conditions. GridMind plans to launch an explainability module in Q1 2029.
