DrugGuard AI Drug Interaction Alert System Launches: Real-Time Warnings at the Prescription Pad

PharmaSafe launched DrugGuard, an AI system embedded in electronic health records that analyzes a patient's full medication profile in real time when a new prescription is written, flagging potentially dangerous drug interactions. It covers over 20,000 drug combinations.

Medical safety AI company PharmaSafe officially launched its DrugGuard drug interaction alert system on April 30. Adverse drug reactions drive more than 2 million hospitalizations worldwide each year, the vast majority stemming from interactions among multiple medications.

DrugGuard integrates directly into electronic health record systems. When a physician writes a new prescription, the system automatically analyzes the combined effect of all the patient's current medications. Its database covers more than 20,000 drug interactions, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and herbal supplements.

During a trial at the Mayo Clinic, DrugGuard identified 12,000 potential drug interactions over a six-month period, of which 340 were confirmed by physicians as high-risk combinations requiring prescription adjustments. DrugGuard is priced at $50,000 per hospital per year.
