Flexible Screen Laptop FlexBook Released: 17-Inch Display Folds in Half to Fit in a Backpack

Lenovo launched the world's first flexible-screen laptop FlexBook simultaneously in Beijing and New York on December 25. The device features a 17.3-inch foldable OLED display that unfolds to deliver a full laptop experience, folding down to just 21.5 x 15 cm that easily fits in a backpack.

FlexBook's screen uses BOE's latest-generation flexible OLED panel with a bending radius of just 3mm, supporting over 200,000 folds without visible creasing. Resolution is 2560x1920, peak brightness 1200 nits, covering 100% DCI-P3 color gamut.

Unlike previous foldable devices, FlexBook retains full keyboard and touchpad functionality when folded. The keyboard uses flexible silicone that naturally bends without damage. When unfolded, the hinge mechanism locks it into a rigid surface with typing feel comparable to traditional laptops.

Lenovo VP Chen Yu said FlexBook targets frequent business travelers. The 17-inch screen fully opens on economy-class tray tables. After folding, it is smaller than a magazine. FlexBook runs Intel's latest Lunar Lake-U processor with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD, about 10 hours of battery, priced at $2,499, available globally in February 2029.

Durability remains a market concern. Despite Lenovo's claim of 200,000 folds, the long-term reliability of hinges, flexible keyboards, and connecting cables has not been validated at scale. The 17-inch flexible screen yield rate is currently only 62%, well above 95% for traditional screens, which is the main reason for FlexBook's high price.
